About this place
Built in the 11th century by King Jajati Keshari of the Somvanshi dynasty, Lingaraj Temple stands as the quintessence of Kalinga architectural tradition. The main tower rises 180 feet and dominates Bhubaneswar's skyline. Housing a Swayambhu Shivalinga measuring 8 feet in diameter, the temple complex contains 150 smaller shrines. The temple represents syncretic worship of Shiva (Hara) and Vishnu (Hari).
