About this place
Lokanath Temple is an ancient 11th-century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located approximately 3 km west of the Jagannath Temple in Puri. The temple is unique because its presiding deity, a natural stone Shiva Lingam, is kept submerged in a natural spring inside the inner sanctum. The water is believed to possess healing properties.
Submerged Shiva Lingam visible only once a year; established by Lord Rama according to mythology.
