About this festival
Pre-dawn ceremony where families float miniature boats of banana stem, paper, betel, flowers and oil lamps in Bindusagar tank and the Kuakhai river — a 2,000-year-old reenactment of Odisha's ancient Kalinga sea-faring voyages to Bali, Java, Sumatra. Concurrent with Cuttack's Bali Yatra.
Traveller tip
Float your boat at Bindusagar at 04:30 — the pre-dawn lamp-lit water is the photograph of the year. Then head to Cuttack for the Bali Yatra fair.
