Rushikulya River Mouth and Turtle Sanctuary

Bhanjanagar, Berhampur

About this place

The Rushikulya River Mouth is where the Rushikulya River — which originates from the Rushyamala Hills in Kandhamal district — meets the Bay of Bengal, creating a sandy river-ocean confluence beach that is one of India's three principal mass nesting sites for Olive Ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), alongside Gahirmatha marine sanctuary in Kendrapara (the world's largest Olive Ridley site) and the Devi River mouth in Puri district.
