Chandipur Beach

Chandipur, Balasore

About this place

Gentle slope (1:300 gradient) combined with extreme tidal range (6-8 meters, among India's most pronounced) creates dramatic low-tide exposures. Visitors walk kilometers on exposed seabed collecting shells, observing horseshoe crabs (living fossils 200 million years unchanged) and marine life. Migratory birds (plovers, sandpipers) feed on exposed seabed during low tides.

Why it matters

Unique geological phenomenon: 5 km tidal recession; 6-8 meter tidal range; horseshoe crabs (200 million year living fossils)

N/A (natural coastal phenomenon)
