About this festival

Three-day festival celebrating womanhood and the menstrual cycle of Mother Earth. Day 1 Pahili Raja, day 2 Mithuna Sankranti, day 3 Bhumi Daha. Swings are hung from trees, girls wear new alta and saris, Poda Pitha is baked. No tilling of soil for three days.

Traveller tip

Visit any heritage home in Old Town to see traditional swings hung from mango trees. Poda Pitha is sold from neighbourhood stalls.
