About this festival
Solar harvest festival marking the Sun's transition into Capricorn. Across Bhubaneswar devotees take pre-dawn ritual baths, fly kites, and prepare 'makara chaula' (sweetened raw rice with fruits, cheese, jaggery, and coconut) as a community offering.
Traveller tip
Arrive at Bindusagar before 06:00 to catch the ritual bath. Skies fill with kites by 09:00.
